ILEC : International Legal English Certificate
This English examination is specifically for practising lawyers and law students

ILEC is a leading English legal examination from Cambridge ESOL, the examining board responsible for the famous Cambridge examinations : FCE, CAE etc.
ILEC provides what law firms around the world have long requested – an internationally-accredited test of spoken and written English for lawyers and students of law whose first language is not English.
The ILEC examination is offered twice yearly with preparation courses of six weeks leading up to both examinations. The preparation course has two main goals:
1. Development of the student’s general English skills and practice in examination techniques required to pass ILEC
(15 hours per week)
- The level of general English required to pass ILEC is high : Advanced / Proficiency (Common European Framework level C1).
2. Preparation of the student in the specific language of legal English
(10 hours per week)
This is divided into three main areas:
- a) contract law
- b) civil (including commercial) law
- c) legal systems
The preparation will include topics such as: different types of lawyer and court, lawyering skills, tort, competition law, employment law, European Law, intellectual property, administrative law.
